Marouane Fellaini: Man Utd midfielder has wrist operation

23 December 2013
Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini faces a spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his wrist.

The 26-year-old has been out with a back problem since a defeat by former club Everton on 4 December.

United were awaiting scan results of that injury before deciding whether the Belgium international had the wrist operation he has been putting off.

Fellaini injured the wrist against Shakhtar Donetsk in a Champions League group game in October.

"Fellaini has an injury to his back, which we hoped might have healed up but it hasn't," said United manager David Moyes prior to his team's win over West Ham on Saturday.

"I am going to get another scan and if it hasn't healed up then I might need to take the decision to get his wrist done as well.

"We hoped his back would be better in 10 days but he is still feeling it. It's a muscle that has separated from the bone in his back and that is what is causing the problem."
